Oral Surgery
At Souris Family Dental in Weyburn, our dentists perform a variety of oral surgery procedures to treat dental issues and improve your oral health.
What is Oral Surgery?
The diagnosis and surgical treatment of injuries, diseases and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, face, teeth and jaws is classified as oral surgery.
While we always prefer to use the least invasive treatment possible for any dental issue, in some cases less invasive treatment options are simply not sufficient and oral surgery is needed.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw which functions like a natural tooth root. Your dentist can place a dental implant as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and restore your smile. Combined with a tooth replacement such as a crown or bridge, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth.
Extractions & Wisdom Teeth
While we always prefer to save a natural tooth, in some cases this proves to be impossible. If a tooth is too severely damaged as a result of injury, decay or gum disease, your dentist may need to remove it. Wisdom teeth may become impacted or not emerge fully and need to be extracted. Due to anesthesia and dental sedation options, extractions are now less painful.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy procedure eliminates a frenum, a small piece of tissue that joins your lips, tongue or cheeks to the gum. Though our dentists typically perform frenectomies for babies and children, they can be completed for patients of any age when the frenum is restricting function.
Bone Grafts
In cases where there is not enough bone material in the jaw to support the placement of a dental implant, we may perform a bone graft. During a bone graft procedure, your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, strengthening it so that it can support a dental implant.
