Dental Sedation in Weyburn
At Souris Family Dental in Weyburn, our dentists offer dental sedation options to make patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
With dental sedation, we use a variety of techniques to ensure our patients feel comfortable during dental procedures.
At Souris Family Dental, we do everything in our power to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. In addition to offering sedation options, we are committed to working at your pace, taking breaks when you need them and providing calm reassurance as required.
Our dentists can help determine whether a dental sedation option is right for you.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
When inhaled through the mouth and nose, nitrous oxide calms patients, though they stay awake and able to communicate. The sedative also tends to increase pain threshold, lessen anxiety, make time pass more quickly and reduce gag reflex.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form, to be taken orally before a dental appointment. Though this sedative leaves you awake for the procedure, it produces a calming effect designed to significantly relax you.
General Anesthesia at the Weyburn Hospital
We offer the option for patients to undergo their treatment under general anaesthesia at Weyburn Hospital. This is most often undertaken when a highly complex or lengthy treatment is required, or for children with extensive dental needs.
Your dentist will discuss your needs (or those of your child) with you, and determine whether general anaesthesia would be beneficial in your case.
