What is a Tooth Extraction?

Typically, we pull a tooth if it's severely damaged or if a wisdom tooth has become impacted or is not growing properly. Teeth are also occasionally pulled to prepare for other dental procedures.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
The last set of molars to emerge in the back corners of a normal adult mouth are wisdom teeth. This usually happens for individuals between 17 and 25 years of age.
This third set of teeth is not always functional, and may crowd out other teeth as they develop. They may also lead to problems with your oral hygiene. In these cases, your dentist may recommend removing the teeth.

Usually, your dentist will save a tooth whenever possible. However, circumstances such as gum disease, excessive decay or injury may require a tooth extraction.
